Objekt is TJ Hertz, a Berlin-based producer and DJ born in Tokyo to British-American and Filipino parents, raised in Belgium and the UK before settling in Berlin in 2009. He first made his name with a series of self-released stamped whitelabel 12"s, following these up with releases on Hessle Audio and a split EP on Leisure System with Dopplereffekt - the track 'Ganzfeld' from which was voted RA's number one track of 2014. His whitelabel Objekt #4 delivered the breakbeat house crossover 'Theme From Q' in 2017, and Objekt #5 in 2022 pushed further into dancehall-influenced territory. His albums Flatland (2014) and Cocoon Crush (2018), both on PAN, were critically acclaimed across the board - Pitchfork describing the latter as containing 'some of the most meticulously arranged compositions that dance music has ever produced'. He also runs the Kapsela Records label.

As a DJ, Objekt is operating at a level very few can match. His sets are a masterclass in genre fluidity - techno, electro, dubstep, footwork, grime, jungle and stranger territories all appear, but always in service of an unbroken narrative arc. He reads a room with precision and plays without ego, letting the music do the work. Seeing him play live is to understand why he is consistently rated among the best DJs in the world.
