MARRØN constantly strives to push its own limits by focusing on a fast rhythm, inspired by its roots. His artist name is in fact a tribute to former slaves of African origin, these maroons who defied oppression and won their freedom in the virgin forests of Suriname.
The hypnotic beats which gave pride of place to percussion, characteristic of MARRØN's afro deep style, gave way to a unique form of techno. His energetic interpretation of the genre fits well with the underground scene, in which he plays a key role as co-founder of a cycle of events organized in Amsterdam, EERSTE COMMUNIE – where he is also one of the DJs in residence. Inspired by artists like Ben Klock and Rødhäd, MARRØN focuses on telling a story through his music, in which he brings together all of his initial influences. It was the free and heterogeneous side of techno that led him to become interested in the underground scene. He is now one of the rising stars of contemporary techno music.
The Ruhr Museum and the Zollverein Foundation launched the StoneTechno project in collaboration with TheThird Room, investing in the Zollverein mining complex – a UNESCO World Heritage site. A unique initiative which aims to make the changes taking place in the cultural and natural history of the Ruhr audible and palpable. The project is led by scientist AchimG. Reisdorf and musician Ahmet Sisman.
The 2023 edition of the Stone Techno Festival was held on July 8 and 9 at the Zollverein.
It is the only electro festival in the world to take place on a World Heritage site. Since 2021, ARTE Concert has been a media partner of Stone Techno.
Concert filmed on July 8, 2023 at the Zollverein, a UNESCO World Heritage site.
