Phil Berg is a composer and sound artist dedicated to exploring the intersection of nature, technology, and the human experience. His work, ranging from ambient soundscapes to experimental electronic pieces, seeks to evoke a sense of wonder and contemplation, inviting listeners to connect with their inner selves and the world around them. Born and raised in the Pacific Northwest, Berg's early life was steeped in the region's lush forests and dramatic coastlines, influences that continue to resonate deeply within his artistic practice. He began experimenting with sound at a young age, using found objects and rudimentary recording equipment to capture and manipulate the world around him.
Later, Berg formally studied music composition and sound design, developing a sophisticated understanding of both acoustic and electronic instruments. His work is characterized by its use of field recordings, synthesized textures, and processed vocals, creating immersive sonic environments that are both beautiful and unsettling. Berg often collaborates with visual artists, dancers, and filmmakers, creating collaborative experiences that transcend the boundaries of individual disciplines. He currently resides in a small studio nestled in the mountains, continuing his exploration of sound and its power to move and transform.
