Sónar Barcelona 2023 marked a monumental occasion: the 30th anniversary of this iconic festival that has become synonymous with pushing the boundaries of electronic music and creative expression. Held from June 15th to 17th, the event wasn't just a celebration of the past; it was a vibrant exploration of the ever-evolving soundscape and a glimpse into the future of music itself.

Veterans of the Sónar stage like Aphex Twin, Black Coffee, Richie Hawtin, DJ Holographic, and Eric Prydz returned, their presence a testament to the festival's enduring legacy. Alongside these established legends were a plethora of fresh faces: BICEP, Honey Dijon, Peggy Gou, and Little Simz brought a new energy, showcasing the diverse directions electronic music is taking.

Techno A Global Electronic Music Powerhouse

The techno scene boasts a spectrum of clubs. Mainstream giants like Berlin's Berghain offer world-renowned DJs, elaborate sound systems, and intense dance floors. Conversely, underground clubs prioritize a more intimate experience, often showcasing local talent and experimental sounds.

Expect a focus on the music itself. Lighting is often dark, with strobe effects adding to the energy. Attendees come for the pure experience of the music, letting loose and getting lost in the rhythm. Some techno clubs, particularly the more famous ones, are known for their strict door policies. Dress code may not be overtly enforced, but a well-considered, comfortable outfit that reflects your appreciation for the music is a plus.

Respect for fellow dancers and the DJ is key. Be mindful of your personal space and avoid overly chatty behavior on the dance floor.
